BORN Freeze-Dried Haskap Berries

Never heard of a haskap berry? Well buckle up!
Haskaps are a rare northern berry with a bold, wild taste and extraordinary nutritional depth. Haskaps are known for their rich purple-blue pigment, a sign of their naturally high anthocyanin and polyphenol content.

BORN haskaps are freeze-dried for a light, crisp texture and long shelf life. They are easy to enjoy straight from the bag, over yogurt, in smoothies, on oatmeal, in baking, or as a bright daily superfruit snack.

Our Promise

Hand-picked Okanagan haskaps, gently freeze-dried at peak ripeness to preserve their deep colour, bright tart-sweet flavour, and exceptional concentration of natural berry polyphenols, anthocyanins, vitamin C, and whole-fruit nourishment.

Whole freeze-dried haskap berries — not a powder, extract, flavouring, or concentrate.
Naturally rich in anthocyanins and polyphenols — the pigments and plant compounds that give haskaps their deep purple colour.
Hand-picked in the Okanagan — grown in one of Canada’s most abundant fruit regions.
No added sugar or preservatives — just real berries, preserved through freeze-drying.
Crisp, shelf-stable, and easy to use — snack on them, top meals, blend into smoothies, or add to recipes.

How to Use

Eat straight from the bag, or add to:

  • Raw yogurt
  • Smoothie bowls
  • Oatmeal or porridge
  • Granola
  • Trail mix
  • Pancakes or waffles
  • Chocolate bark
  • Homemade bars
  • Wild berry sauces
  • Dessert toppings
  • Freeze-dried snack mixes

  • Note

For recipes, use freely as you would any tart berry. Rehydrate with a small amount of warm water, milk, cream, honey, or maple syrup when a softer texture is desired.

Begin with 1/4 volume of luke water. So if you're rehydrating 1 cup of haskaps, use 1/4 cup of luke water. Use a vessel where the fruit can lay flat and be mostly in contact with the water (unlike a thin tall vessel where the water will sit on the bottom, not in contact with the berries).

Gently stirring can speed up the rehydration.

From here, you can add more water if you'd like them softer.

Note - The leftover water will contain epic nutrition. Anthocyanins, polyphenols, and more. This water can be added to smoothies, teas - really anywhere you're using water in food.

Unlike our freeze dried meats which rehydrate more simply, rehydrating fruit requires a bit more intention.

When you rehydrate fruit, it will return as softer than when fresh, just like when you thaw frozen fruit. If you're looking for berries with more texture, consume them in their freeze-dried form.

Rehydrating them works for any use where thawed frozen berries would work. This includes in baking, in yogurt bowls, or in beverages (like an infused water).

FAQ's

Haskaps are tart, bright, and berry-rich. Many people describe them as a cross between blueberry, raspberry, blackcurrant, and cranberry. Freeze-dried, they become crisp and intensely flavoured.

No. BORN Haskaps contain no added sugar, honey, maple syrup, juice, or sweetener of any kind. Freeze-drying intensifies flavours and natural sweetness because all the water volume is removed. You'll find these more delightful than fresh berries!

Yes. Freeze-dried haskaps are light and crisp. They soften quickly when added to yogurt, smoothies, porridge, milk, cream, or warm water.

Yes. They are simply whole berries. Because they are tart, sweet and crisp, we hear from parents all the time that their kids think these berries are candy!

Treat these like fresh haskaps (though these are delightfully snackable and can disappear more quickly). Feel free to eat as much as you'd eat in fresh berries.

No, not really. Haskaps are often noted for having especially high anthocyanin, phenolic, and vitamin C content compared with many common berries, including blueberries. Blueberries contain all of these in slightly smaller amounts than Haskaps, but are known for vitamin K and manganese. No matter which BORN berry you choose, all of our berries are natural, clean, and packed with wild nutrition and clean vibration, making them bioavalable and healthy.

These berries are grown organically and with love in the Okanagan. They meet all the requirements for an organic certification, but a certification has not been pursued.

Yes, these berries are raw. The freeze drying process does not heat the berries at all.

No. Keep sealed in a cool, dry place. Once opened, reseal tightly after portioning to protect from atmospheric moisture.

Yes. Add them to pancakes, muffins, chocolate bark, granola, oatmeal, sauces, or desserts. For softer recipes, rehydrate first.

These berries are a natural product grown wild on the bush, and so the density of each nutrient varies throughout the seasons and even the time of day they're harvested. The nutritional information provided is an average, so you can bet what you're getting is right in the ballpark of what's listed here.

Freeze-dried berries are lighter, crispier, and retain more of the original berry colour, shape, and bright flavour than conventional heat-dried fruit. And if that's not enough reason to freeze-dry, get this! Dehydrators use heat, which breaks down some nutrients. Because freeze-dryers use no heat, freeze-dried fruit contains all the nutrition of the fresh berry.

Yes. They are lightweight, shelf-stable, nutrient-dense, and easy to pack.
